At one point or another we have all spilled something on our laptops. And as we all know, liquids and laptops don't work very well together. When a laptop gets wet, all sorts of problems can take place. It can short out the circuit and cause your laptop to never turn on again. So with this quick article I am going to tell you want to do in the event your laptop gets wet.
What you must understand is that quick action is the key to saving your laptop. The first thing you should do is immediately unplug the laptop. This is to protect you and keep you from getting shocked. Now grab a towel and try to soak up as much of the liquid as you can. Do this as quickly as possible so it won't continue to seep into the cracks and crevices.
Now turn the laptop over and try to shake out even more of the liquid. Again, the idea is to catch it before it gets into the cracks and crevices and starts to run the circuit board and other components. Be sure to be gentle while shaking the laptop.
You should also take out the battery while you have the laptop sitting upside down so it can dry too. Now pull out a blow dryer and use it to dry out the other parts inside the laptop. Make sure you have the blow dryer on the lowest possible setting. You don't want to risk burning important parts.
Take your time with this process. Gently move the blow dry back and forth over the inside components. If you can, leave the laptop sitting out, keyboard side down, for a day or two. You are trying to make sure everything is completely dry. Don't try to turn the laptop on until you are sure it is completely dry. Doing so could cause even more damage.
After the laptop has sat out for a couple of days, you can reassemble it. Once you have it put back together try to power it on. Generally speaking, your laptop should continue working just fine once it is completely dry.
If however your laptop will not power back on after a few days of sitting out, consider taking it to a laptop repair shop. It could be something more serious and you should have a professional look at it. A professional will also be able to help you remove important files off of the laptop.
